Cannabis is also known by its slang terms: marijuana, weed, pot and grass. The first two are the most commonly used in the United States, while the last two are most common in Canada and Europe.
What Is CBG?
Cannabigerol (CBG) is one of the many cannabinoids that make up cannabis. It was first isolated in 1964 by Israeli scientist Raphael Mechoulam who also discovered THC, the primary psychoactive component of cannabis.
CBG is considered a non-psychoactive cannabinoid because it does not produce a "high" when consumed. It can be found in both high-CBD strains and low-CBD strains; however, it is most commonly found in high-CBD strains. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may help with pain relief for some people who suffer from arthritis or other conditions that cause chronic inflammation.
CBG is thought to work best when used in combination with other cannabinoids like THC and CBD. The combination of these three cannabinoids together is known as THC-dominant medicine or THCa-dominant medicine (THCa).
The main effects of CBG include:
- Improved mood
- Lessened anxiety
- Reduced stress levels
- Improved sleep quality (less tossing and turning)
CBG is one of the most common cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. It is found in varying amounts throughout many strains of cannabis and is what gives them their unique flavor and smell. Its effects are often subtle, but they can be significant and they are worth exploring.
